Portland Traiblazers 2004-2006

After a well publicized career at Coney Island’s Abraham Lincoln High School, Telfair announced he would forgo a collegiate career at Louisville and enter the 2004 NBA Draft.  It was a decision chronicled by a book and documentary film.  The Portland Trailblazers made his dreams come true by selecting Telfair with the 13th overall pick.

Telfair spent two years with the Blazers, beginning the 2005-06 season as their starting point guard before a thumb injury sidelined him in December.  Steve Blake took over the position and never looked back, keeping the job when Telfair returned in January. On June 28, 2006, Telfair was dealt to Boston with Theo Ratliff for Dan Dickau, Raef LaFrentz and Randy Foye.

Boston Celtics 2006-2007

Telfair appeared in a career high 78 games – starting 30 – during his season in Boston.  He was arrested on April 20, 2007 for driving with a suspended license and possession of an unregistered handgun.  He eventually pled guilty to the gun charge and received 3 years probation.  The legal troubles marked the end of his time with Celtics.  He was dealt along with Al Jefferson, Ryan Gomes, Gerald Green, Theo Ratliff and two 1st round picks for Kevin Garnett on July 31.

Minnesota Timberwolves 2007-2009

On his 3rd team in 3 years, Telfair’s two seasons in Minnesota were probably his best.  He established career highs in starts (51 in 2007-08), points (9.8, 2008-09), assists (5.9, 2007-08) and most other statistical categories.  With new management in charge however, Telfair was again on the move.  On July 20, 2009 he was sent with Mark Madsen and Craig Smith to the Clippers for Quentin Richardson in a cost cutting move.

Los Angeles Clippers 2009-2010

Telfair’s stay in LA was brief.  He appeared in 39 games with the Clippers, averaging 4.8 points and 2.9 assists before being dealt to Cleveland in a 3 team, 4 player and 1 draft pick trade on February 17.

Cleveland Cavaliers 2010

United with his longtime friend Lebron James, Telfair spent the stretch run and post season in Cleveland.  Appearing in just 4 games, he averaged 9.8 points and 3 assists for the Cavs.  He was inactive during the team’s playoff run. On July 26, Telfair was dealt back to Minnesota along with Delonte West for Ryan Hollins and Ramon Sessions.

Minnesota Timberwolves 2010-

Telfair’s second stint in Minnesota has been less eventful than his first.  After receiving substantial action in the season’s early going, Telfair was relegated to 3rd string when fellow point guard Jonny Flynn returned from a hip injury in December.  Trade rumors have swirled around Telfair since then, with some reports having him headed back home to the Knicks.
