Golden State Warriors 1995-1998
The 1995 Naismith Award winner left the University of Maryland after his sophomore
year and was chosen by Golden State with the No. 1 overall pick in the 1995 draft. Smith
put together a solid rookie season, averaging 15.3 points and 8.7 rebounds for the Warriors and earning All Rookie honors. He followed that up with a strong second season, averaging a career high 18.7 points
while pulling down 8.5 boards per game. Smith was scoring at a 17.3 point clip 49 games into the 1997-98 season when he was
dealt by the Warriors to Philadelphia along with Brian Shaw for Jim Jackson and Clarence Weatherspoon on February 17.

Philadelphia 76ers 1998
In 30 games with the 76ers, Smith
averaged 10.3 points and 4.4 rebounds. A free agent following the season, Smith
had to wait through an extended labor stoppage before inking a relatively modest 3-year deal with Minnesota.

Minnesota Timberwolves 1999-2000
Teamed with Kevin Garnett,
Smith averaged roughly 11 points and 7 rebounds in two seasons with the Timberwolves. The team reached the NBA playoffs in
both seasons – a first for Smith – but were bounced in the first round each time.
Following the 1999-2000 season,
Smith found himself in the middle of a major scandal when it was revealed that he had secretly been promised a future, long
term contract when he originally had signed with the Wolves for below market value.
It was a clear violation of the league’s salary cap rules. Commissioner
David Stern came down hard, fining the team $3.5 million, suspending Timberwolves executive Kevin McHale and taking away five
future 1st round picks from the franchise (it was later reduced to three). In
addition, the final year of Smith’s contract was voided and he was declared a free agent free to sign with any team
but Minnesota. He would strike a 1-year deal with Detroit days later.

Detroit Pistons 2000-2001
In Smith’s lone season in the Motor City, he averaged 12.3 points and
7.1 rebounds for the Pistons. Once again a free agent, he inked a long term contract
with Minnesota.

Minnesota Timberwolves 2001-2003
The forward’s second stint with the Timberwolves would be far less eventful. After two solid, but unspectacular campaigns in which the Wolves reached the postseason
only to lose in the first round, he was dealt to Milwaukee with Anthony Peeler for Sam Cassell and Ervin Johnson on June 27,
2003.

Milwaukee Bucks 2003-2006
The journeyman remained a productive player in Beer Town. In three seasons with the Bucks, he averaged 10.9, 11.0 and 8.6 points and helped the team reach the postseason
twice. On August 10, 2006, he was sent to Denver for Ruben Patterson.

Denver Nuggets 2006
Smith appeared in only 11 games with the Nuggets before he was dealt back to
Philadelphia with Andre Miller and a 1st round pick for Allen Iverson and Ivan McFarlin on December 19.

Philadelphia 76ers 2006-2007
Like his first stint with the 76ers, this stop in Philly was brief. In 54 contests he averaged 9.2 points per game in the final year of his contract. On June 17, 2007 Smith
joined the Chicago Bulls, singing a free agent deal.

Chicago Bulls 2007-2008
In a pit stop with the Bulls, Smith appeared in 50 games before he was sent
to Cleveland in a 3-team megadeal involving 11 players and 1 draft pick on February 21, 2008.

Cleveland Cavaliers 2008
Smith experienced his first extended post season run with the Cavaliers, playing
a reserve role for the team as they advanced to the conference semifinals before falling to the eventual champion Celtics
in 7 games. On August 13, Smith was again sent packing, this time to Oklahoma
City in another 3-team trade that involved 6 players.

Oklahoma City Thunder 2008-2009
As an original member of the Thunder, Smith saw action in 36 games before his
contract was bought out on March 1, 2009. He would rejoin Cleveland three days
later for the stretch run.

Cleveland Cavaliers 2009
Smith played in 21 regular season
and 13 playoff games, helping the Cavaliers reach the conference finals before they were upset by Orlando. A free agent following the season, he was on the move again, signing a 1-year contact with Atlanta on August
25.

Atlanta Hawks 2009-2010
The well traveled veteran spent the entire season in Atlanta, appearing in
64 games and scoring 3.0 points per contest. A free agent, Smith found work with
New Jersey on September 10, 2010.

New Jersey Nets 2010
After playing in just 4 games for the Nets, Smith was dealt to the Lakers on
December 15 in 3-team deal involving 4 players and 4 draft picks.
**********************************************************************************************************************

Los Angeles Lakers 2010-2011
Smith had a very limited role for the defending world champions, scoring just
6 points in 12 games. After 16 seasons and 12 teams, he is hoping to reach the NBA Finals for the first time this June.
